Nigeria’s headline inflation rate declined to 14.63 per cent in September 2026 from 15.39 per cent in August, marking another monthly slowdown in the pace of price increases.

The bureau said this in its Consumer Price Index report released on Thursday, representing a decline of 0.76 percentage points in the annual inflation rate.v

The figure was also lower than the 20.98 per cent recorded in September 2025.

However, food inflation remained high at 19.59 per cent in September, compared with 19.57 per cent in August, showing that food prices continue to put pressure on household budgets.

Month-on-month food inflation fell to -1.55 per cent from 1.02 per cent in August, indicating a decline in average food prices during the month.

The latest figures come after the Central Bank of Nigeria reduced its benchmark interest rate to 23 per cent in September as part of its monetary policy measures.

Although the decline in annual inflation signals a slowdown in price increases, many households continue to face high living costs.
