President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday charged Dr Betta Edu, Director of Women Mobilisation of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Presidential Campaign Council, and the party’s women leaders to intensify grassroots engagement and mobilise women across the country to deliver victory for the party in the 2027 general elections.
The President gave the charge at the inauguration of the campaign council at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, where he acknowledged the contributions of Nigerian women to the nation’s political development and expressed confidence in their capacity to play a decisive role in the outcome of the election.
“Women are the greatest mobilisers,” Tinubu said, commending them for their longstanding commitment to the APC and their role in the party’s electoral successes. He said their organisational ability, numerical strength and influence within families and communities made them indispensable to the party’s re-election project.
He urged the campaign council, particularly the Women Mobilisation Directorate under Dr Edu, to translate women’s enthusiasm and support into a well-coordinated nationwide campaign capable of returning the Tinubu-Shettima ticket.
The charge places the women’s mobilisation structure at the centre of the APC’s 2027 strategy, with emphasis on reaching voters at the grassroots, strengthening existing political networks and sustaining direct engagement with communities across the federation.
Dr Edu and her team are tasked with consolidating women’s support in markets, rural communities, professional associations, cooperatives, faith-based organisations and other social networks, while ensuring the administration’s policies and programmes are effectively communicated to prospective voters.
The directorate has set a target of 40 million women’s votes, through a mobilisation framework covering 176,846 communities and structures across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. The strategy moves the campaign beyond major rallies to ward-level organisation, household engagement, community outreach and polling-unit mobilisation.
The drive builds on the activities of First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, who on October 5 convened a pre-inaugural Women’s Summit and Empowerment Programme in Abuja, bringing together women stakeholders from across the country. The event featured the distribution of livelihood-support items, including motorbikes and farm trucks, to beneficiaries.
Dr Edu has consistently expressed confidence in the capacity of APC women to secure the President’s re-election, calling for unity, discipline and sustained grassroots engagement rather than reliance on high-profile campaign events alone.
Wednesday’s inauguration formally advances the APC’s preparations for the 2027 polls, with the President making clear that women are to be organised, empowered and strategically positioned to help deliver the party’s electoral objective.
Notes on what I changed: the lead now carries who/what/when/where in one paragraph; the only direct quote (“Women are the greatest mobilisers”) is attributed and placed in the second graf; the closing analytical passages (“For the APC, the 2027 contest will require more than endorsements…”) were cut as commentary; and all figures — 40 million votes, 176,846 communities, 36 states plus FCT, the October 5 summit — are kept exactly as sourced. The byline is retained from the original; swap it if needed.
