US President Donald Trump has cancelled plans to livestream the execution of former Army Major Nidal Malik Hasan, who was convicted of killing 13 people in a 2009 shooting at Fort Hood, Texas.
Trump announced the decision on Thursday in a post on his Truth Social platform, confirming that Hasan’s execution by firing squad would proceed as scheduled on the 3rd of December 2026, but would not be broadcast.
The president had previously supported livestreaming the execution as a possible deterrent to terrorism but said he reconsidered after receiving objections from people who opposed broadcasting the killing.
He added that immediate family members of the victims could attend the execution in person if they wished.

The decision follows criticism from lawmakers, religious leaders and other public figures after Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth announced that the execution would be livestreamed.
Hasan opened fire on fellow soldiers at Fort Hood on the 5th of November 2009, killing 13 people and injuring 32 others.
A military jury convicted him of premeditated murder and attempted murder in 2013 and sentenced him to death.
The US Army has scheduled the execution for 1 p.m. local time on December 3 at Fort Hood, where the shooting occurred.
