The Tinubu Again Movement, TAM, 2027 has appointed Barrister Sidikat Duke-Abiola as its Southwest Director of Women Mobilisation, the group’s national leadership said in a statement.

The appointment, approved by its national leadership, places a legal practitioner and activist from one of Nigeria’s most politically symbolic families in charge of women’s mobilisation across the six Southwest states ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Barrister Duke-Abiola is the daughter of the late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola, the presumed winner of the annulled June 12, 1993 presidential election, who died in detention in 1998 and is widely regarded as the hero of Nigeria’s return to democracy. She is also the daughter of Prof. Akasoba Zainab Duke-Abiola, a professor of law, human rights activist and widow of the late politician.

The movement said the appointment was intended to “strengthen women’s participation, expand grassroots mobilisation” and build support structures for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda in the Southwest.

Her responsibilities will include strengthening the movement’s structures in the region, engaging women leaders, coordinating grassroots activities and encouraging wider participation in the political process.

Heritage and profile

The statement described Barrister Duke-Abiola as “a distinguished legal practitioner, activist and woman of remarkable pedigree,” citing her family’s association with democratic struggle and public service. It did not list her professional history, the schools or firms she has worked with, or previous political roles.

Her mother, Prof. Duke-Abiola, has featured prominently in national and international news this year. In August 2026, the African Policy and Research Consortium endorsed her as a candidate for the office of United Nations Secretary-General, and she accepted the nomination, with supporters framing her candidature around greater African representation in the leadership of international institutions. The current Secretary-General, António Guterres, is due to leave office at the end of 2026.

The TAM 2027 statement referenced that endorsement as evidence of “the importance of recognising Nigerian women who continue to distinguish themselves in academia, diplomacy and global leadership.”

What the movement says

TAM 2027 said it remained committed to “building an inclusive, united and people-oriented movement that recognises the enormous contributions of women to political development and national progress,” adding that it was confident her “experience, family heritage, professional competence and commitment to service” would contribute to its success.

The national leadership congratulated her on the appointment and said the movement would “continue to mobilise, engage and unite our people” behind the President’s agenda.
