Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to working with private investors and stakeholders to attract investments, improve infrastructure and accelerate sustainable development across the state.
The governor stated this on Wednesday in Omu-Aran, Irepodun Local Government Area, during the foundation-laying ceremony of the clinical building complex of Thomas Adewumi University Teaching Hospital, Oko-Irese.
AbdulRazaq, represented by his deputy, Elder Kayode Alabi, described the project as a landmark achievement in the expansion of healthcare services in Kwara, particularly in the southern region.
He said the collaboration between the state government and Thomas Adewumi University would enhance medical education, boost healthcare personnel development and increase access to quality medical services.
According to the governor, the teaching hospital would also promote the decentralisation of tertiary healthcare delivery and reduce pressure on existing medical facilities in other parts of the state.
AbdulRazaq maintained that the initiative goes beyond the construction of a medical facility, describing it as a strategic investment in the health and welfare of future generations.
“Today marks another milestone as we witness the establishment of the first teaching hospital in Kwara South. This remarkable achievement, conceived and actualised through a strategic partnership with the Kwara State Government through the Ministry of Health, will promote medical education, improve human resources in health and contribute significantly to increasing access to quality healthcare for our people,” he said.
The governor added that the availability of tertiary healthcare services in Kwara South would enable residents to access specialised treatment more conveniently while easing the burden on hospitals located in central areas.

He also urged residents of Omu-Aran and surrounding communities to cooperate with the project through peaceful conduct and by creating a conducive environment for its successful completion.
The event was attended by government officials, traditional rulers, academics and political stakeholders, including the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly and APC governorship candidate, Rt. Hon. Salihu Yakubu Danladi, whose presence generated enthusiasm among participants.

Dr Adewumi said the event demonstrated the joint determination of the Kwara State Government and Thomas Adewumi University to upgrade the former General Hospital into a fully functional teaching hospital.
He revealed that the university had embarked on several rehabilitation and development initiatives since taking over the facility in April 2025, aimed at improving its capacity and quality of healthcare delivery.
According to him, the interventions included renovating operating theatres, acquiring and upgrading medical equipment, restructuring wards and administrative offices, and erecting a new administrative building.
Dr Adewumi thanked Governor AbdulRazaq for supporting the partnership, describing him as a forward-looking leader who appreciates the role of innovative collaborations in advancing development.
He also acknowledged traditional rulers in the region for their prayers, encouragement and guidance throughout the project.
The Olupo of Ajase-Ipo, Oba Ismail Yahya Alebiosu, commended Dr Adewumi for his contributions to Igbominaland, describing the teaching hospital initiative as a significant accomplishment for the region.
The monarch said the project would improve healthcare access, generate employment and stimulate economic activities within the community.
