The Plateau State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, has ordered the immediate closure of all primary and junior secondary schools across the state as a precautionary measure.
Mr. Richard Jonah, the Public Relations Officer of the board, announced the directive on Friday in Jos, explaining that the move is necessary to safeguard lives and property.
“All Government Junior Model Secondary Schools will close effective Saturday, November 22, while primary and day schools will close starting Monday, November 24,” Jonah stated.

He described the closure as temporary but emphasized that it is a critical step to prevent potential security threats in the state. The PRO assured parents, guardians, and stakeholders that the government’s priority is the safety and wellbeing of students.
Jonah added that the board has advised all Local Government Education Authorities, school administrators, and community leaders to cooperate fully with the directive and remain vigilant.
“This action underscores the government’s commitment to proactively addressing security concerns while reassuring communities that students’ safety remains a top priority,” he noted.
The board called for collective vigilance and adherence to the directive to ensure that the preventive measure is effective. Schools are expected to resume operations once the security situation stabilizes and official clearance is provided by SUBEB management.
Stakeholders and the public have been urged to stay informed of further announcements from the board regarding the reopening of schools and other precautionary measures.
The move follows recent reports of rising security threats in parts of Plateau, highlighting the state government’s proactive approach to preventing potential harm to students and educational infrastructure.
