Defending champions Super Falcons of Nigeria were knocked out of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations WAFCON following a 1-0 defeat to Cameroon at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca on Sunday.
Myriam Nyadjou scored the only goal of the keenly contested encounter as the Indomitable Lionesses ended Nigeria’s hopes of successfully defending their continental title.
It was only the second time Cameroon have defeated Nigeria in a WAFCON encounter, making the victory a memorable one for the Indomitable Lionesses.
Nyadjou broke the deadlock in the 20th minute, producing a superb free-kick to hand Cameroon a precious advantage.
The Super Falcons responded strongly after going behind and pushed forward in search of an equaliser.
Nigeria created opportunities as they attempted to find a way back into the contest, but they were frustrated by some impressive goalkeeping and a determined Cameroon defence.
The defending champions continued to pile on the pressure, knowing that another goal for Cameroon could effectively put the contest beyond them.

Cameroon, however, remained organised and disciplined at the back, limiting Nigeria’s chances of finding the much-needed equaliser.
The Super Falcons stepped up their attacking efforts after the break and battled hard to restore parity, but the Indomitable Lionesses stood firm.
As the encounter entered its closing stages, Nigeria continued to push more players forward in a desperate attempt to force the game beyond regulation time.
Cameroon defended resolutely and successfully protected their slender advantage until the final whistle to seal a famous victory over the defending champions.
The result brought the Super Falcons’ title defence to a disappointing end, while Cameroon progressed to the semi-finals of the competition.
The Indomitable Lionesses will now face hosts Morocco in the semi-finals on Wednesday, with a place in the WAFCON final at stake.
