The Lagos State Police Command has detained a 20-year-old social media influencer, Habeeb Hamzat, popularly known as Peller, over reckless driving that led to a serious road accident while he was live streaming on social media.
The arrest followed the circulation of a viral video showing Hamzat driving dangerously before crashing his vehicle, an act that endangered his life and that of other road users.
Confirming the development on Tuesday evening in Lagos, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said the incident occurred on Sunday and drew widespread public concern due to the manner in which it was broadcast online.
She said preliminary assessment by the police described the act as a deliberate attempt to commit suicide, noting that it constituted a grave threat to public safety.
Adebisi disclosed that the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation, adding that the findings would be made public upon completion.
