Steve is a Nigerian gospel singer, songwriter, worship minister, music director, and label founder. His official website describes him as a leading Christian/gospel music minister from Nigeria with global influence, whose songs are sung by millions around the world and who has received numerous awards.
He is reported to have been born in Abuja and to hail from Benue State, Nigeria. Multiple sources say he developed an interest in music early in life: African Music Library says he began singing at about age four and joined the choir at his local Anglican church at age eight, while Legit.ng similarly says he joined Saint John’s Anglican Church choir at age eight. Both also note that he later became part of Deacon Kids Band.
Steve rose to wider prominence through his breakout worship song “You Are Great,” which several sources identify as the song that made him widely known in gospel music. African Music Library says he “came into prominence” with that hit single, while Famous Birthdays says he became famous with the track in 2016.
In an interview excerpt quoted by Legit.ng, Steve explained that “You Are Great” came out of deep reflection about creation, miracles, and the greatness of God. He described asking himself questions about existence, the order of nature, and divine mystery, and said those reflections inspired the song.
Beyond that signature song, Steve Crown has released or been associated with songs such as “Imela,” “Ejiro,” “All the Way,” “I Surrender All to You,” “Angels Bow,” and “Your Love.” His official site also lists projects including You Are Great, Nations Will Rise and Sing, Kairos, and Faith is Raising/Faith is Rising. Famous Birthdays notes that his albums include Kairos and Faith is Rising and that he founded the annual event Nations Will Rise and Sing.
Steve is also the founder of Lakelight Entertainment, a gospel-focused record label. African Music Library says the label was created to discover and support gospel music talent, while Legit.ng describes it as a mission-driven platform meant to help young people find purpose, work hard, and discover the greatness of God.
Additional profile details from Famous Birthdays say that Steve Crown studied at the University of Abuja, originally wanted to become a lawyer, has three siblings, and has collaborated with singer Tope Alabi. The same profile also says he later spoke publicly about narrowly surviving a car accident in 2022.
