Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, on Sunday described traditional institutions as vital drivers of peace, security, development, and national cohesion.

Mustapha stated this during the conferment of honorary traditional titles on 22 distinguished sons, daughters and friends of the Bachama Kingdom in Numan council area of Adamawa.

He said traditional institutions remain “living institutions” that continue to play vital roles in Nigeria’s nation-building and governance processes.

According to him, traditional rulers serve as bridges between governments and citizens, helping to connect public policies with grassroots realities.

The former SGF said traditional titles should be seen as recognition of service, sacrifice and commitment to community development rather than mere symbols of status.

He noted that every title conferred carries responsibilities, requiring recipients to contribute positively to society and the welfare of their communities.

Mustapha urged title holders to demonstrate humility, integrity and dedication in discharging their responsibilities.

The former SGF, who received the title of “Ngra Bachama,” advised recipients to remain accessible to the people, saying honor should strengthen service and deepen commitment to community welfare.

Mustapha also commended the Hama Bachama and the Bachama Traditional Council for recognizing individuals who have contributed meaningfully to society.

Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri also called on the sons and daughters of the Bachama Chiefdom to embrace peaceful coexistence as a foundation for sustainable development.

Represented by his deputy, Prof. Kaletapwa Farauta, the governor said peace provides the stability required for communities and societies to prosper.

Fintiri said the conferment of traditional titles was not merely an honor but a call to greater service and responsibility.

He urged the recipients to work collectively towards promoting unity and accelerating development across Bachama land.

In his remarks, the Hama Bachama, Dr Daniel Shaga, stressed the importance of peace to societal development.

Shaga urged communities within the Chiefdom to embrace unity, love and mutual understanding for sustaining the progress.

“I urge you to pray and work tirelessly for the promotion of peace among yourselves,” the traditional ruler said.

Speaking on behalf of the recipients, Dr Agoso Bamaiyi, thanked the Bachama Chiefdom for the honor bestowed on them.

He, however, assured the Chiefdom of their commitment to supporting initiatives that would promote sustainable development and improve people’s welfare.
