NiMet predicts three-day cloudy, stormy weather

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency, NiMet, has predicted cloudy and thundery weather activities from Wednesday to Friday across the country.

‎NiMet’s weather outlook released in Abuja envisaged patches of clouds on Wednesday over the northern region with prospects of morning thunderstorms accompanied by light rains over part of Taraba and Kebbi States during the morning hours.
‎
‎NiMet predicted isolated thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rains over ‎parts of Taraba, Borno, Yobe, Bauchi, Sokoto, Katsina, Zamfara, Jigawa, Kano and Kaduna States later in the day.
‎
‎”For North central region, thunderstorms accompanied by light rains are expected over parts of Nasarawa, Niger, Benue and the Federal Capital Territory during the morning hours.
‎
‎”During the afternoon or evening hours, thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rains are expected over most parts of the region” it said.
‎
‎The agency predicted a cloudy atmosphere over the southern region with prospects of morning rains over parts of Lagos, Ondo, Ogun, Oyo, Rivers, Bayelsa, Delta, Edo, Cross River Abia, Imo, Ebonyi and Akwa Ibom States during the morning hours.
‎
‎It anticipated moderate rains over most parts of the region later in the day.
‎
‎According to the agency, patches of clouds are anticipated over the northern region with prospects of morning thunderstorms accompanied by light rains over parts of Jigawa, Kano, Borno, Yobe, Bauchi, Gombe and Kaduna States from on Thursday during the morning hours.

‎” Later during the afternoon or evening hours, thunderstorms with moderate rains are expected over Jigawa, Kano, Kaduna, Yobe, Bauchi, Gombe, Adamawa and Taraba States.

‎”For North central region, sunny skies with patches of clouds are expected over the central region with prospects of morning thunderstorms accompanied by light rains over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, Plateau, ‎Niger and Benue states during the morning hours.
‎
‎ “Later in the day, thunderstorms with moderate rains are expected over the entire region,” NiMet said.

‎NiMet envisaged light rains over parts of Ondo, Ogun, Abia, Imo, Enugu, Ebonyi, Lagos, Akwa Ibom, and cross River States during the morning hours of the southern region.
‎
‎It predicted continuous rains over most parts of the region later in the day.
‎
‎NiMet forecast high chances of flooding over parts of Imo, Abia, Ebonyi, Akwa Ibom and Cross River states
‎during this forecast period.
‎
‎The agency envisaged partly cloudy skies over the northern region with chances of thunderstorms accompanied by ‎moderate rains over Taraba and Adamawa States during the morning hours on Friday.
‎

NiMet has forecast thunderstorms with moderate rains over Borno, Yobe, Bauchi, Gombe, Kano, Jigawa, Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, Adamawa, and Taraba States by the afternoon or evening hours.

Sunny skies with patches of clouds are expected in the central region. However, thunderstorms with light rains may occur in parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Benue, Kogi, Nasarawa, and Niger States during the morning.

Later in the day, most parts of the central region are likely to experience thunderstorms with moderate rains.

In the southern region, cloudy conditions are anticipated. Moderate rains are expected in Ondo, Ebonyi, Lagos, Ogun, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River States during the morning hours.

By evening, moderate rains are forecast across much of the southern region. Strong winds may precede rainfall in areas where thunderstorms occur.

NiMet has urged the public to take precautions. Loose objects should be fastened to avoid collisions. States prone to flash floods should activate emergency response systems immediately.

Driving under heavy rain should be avoided. Electrical appliances should be disconnected from sockets. Residents are advised to stay away from tall trees to prevent accidents from falling branches.

Airline operators are encouraged to obtain airport‑specific weather reports from NiMet for effective planning.
