Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures have released Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the fourth instalment in the current Spider-Man franchise, in cinemas worldwide, with the highly anticipated superhero film opening exclusively in theatres on Friday.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the film continues Peter Parker’s story after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, which ended with the world forgetting Parker’s identity following Doctor Strange’s memory-altering spell.

The new chapter explores the consequences of that sacrifice as Peter embraces life in anonymity while continuing his mission as New York City’s masked protector.

In Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Peter struggles to balance his personal life with his responsibilities as Spider-Man in a world where no one remembers who he is.

As he attempts to rebuild his life from scratch, he faces mounting emotional and personal challenges while confronting a mysterious new villain whose actions threaten New York City and the people closest to him.

Tom Holland reprises his role as Peter Parker, alongside returning cast members Zendaya as Michelle “MJ” Jones and Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds.

The film also features Sadie Sink, Jon Bernthal as The Punisher, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/Hulk, and Michael Mando as Scorpion, expanding the Marvel universe with a mix of familiar faces and new characters.

The screenplay is written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, who also penned Spider-Man: No Way Home. Running for two hours and 25 minutes, the action-adventure film carries a PG-13 rating for sequences of action, violence and some language.

Early critical reception has been overwhelmingly positive. Reviewers have praised Holland’s performance, the film’s emotional storytelling and its action sequences, with Spider-Man: Brand New Day earning a 91 per cent critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes following its premiere.

The film is currently showing exclusively in cinemas worldwide. Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures have not announced an official streaming release date.
