Real Madrid have completed the signing of highly rated Ivory Coast international Yan Diomande from German Bundesliga side RB Leipzig, securing one of Europe’s brightest young talents on a long-term contract.

The Spanish giants confirmed on Thursday that the 19-year-old winger has signed a seven-year deal that will keep him at the Santiago Bernabéu until June 30, 2033. While Real Madrid did not officially reveal the financial details of the transfer, Spanish media reports claim the deal is worth €140 million (£161 million), including performance-related bonuses, making it the most expensive signing in the club’s history.

Diomande arrives in Madrid after an outstanding debut campaign in the Bundesliga, where he established himself as one of Europe’s most exciting attacking prospects. The Ivorian joined RB Leipzig from Spanish club Leganés in 2025 and immediately made a significant impact, scoring 12 league goals and providing eight assists. His impressive performances earned him the Bundesliga Young Player of the Season award and attracted interest from several of Europe’s biggest clubs.

Real Madrid faced stiff competition for the teenager’s signature. French champions Paris Saint-Germain and Premier League side Liverpool were both heavily linked with Diomande during the summer transfer window. PSG reportedly withdrew from negotiations after concerns over Leipzig’s valuation, while Liverpool saw an earlier offer rejected as the Bundesliga club remained firm on their asking price.

Diomande’s rapid rise has also extended to the international stage. The winger represented Ivory Coast at the FIFA World Cup, where his pace, creativity and technical ability further enhanced his growing reputation. Despite his young age, he has already established himself as one of the country’s key attacking players and is widely regarded as one of African football’s brightest prospects.

The move continues Real Madrid’s aggressive squad rebuild ahead of the new season. Following two consecutive campaigns without winning a major trophy, the club has embarked on a significant overhaul under returning head coach José Mourinho, who replaced Álvaro Arbeloa for a second spell in charge of Los Blancos.

Diomande becomes Madrid’s sixth signing of the summer, joining Marc Cucurella, Bernardo Silva, Ibrahima Konaté, Denzel Dumfries and Carlos Espi as part of Mourinho’s rebuilding project. The arrivals are expected to inject fresh quality and depth into a squad determined to reclaim domestic and European honours.

Real Madrid are also reportedly monitoring Manchester City and Spain midfielder Rodri, as the club continues to strengthen key areas ahead of the new campaign. Should that move materialize, it would further underline the club’s ambition to return to the summit of European football.

For Diomande, the transfer represents the biggest step of his young career. He now joins one of the world’s most successful clubs with the expectation of developing into a cornerstone of Madrid’s next generation alongside some of Europe’s elite talents. With his speed, flair and eye for goal, supporters will be hoping the Ivorian winger can quickly adapt to life in La Liga and justify his record-breaking price tag.
