Real Madrid are set to receive €11.5 million from Chema Andrés’ move to Brighton, following the English club’s decision to complete a €23 million transfer from Bayer Leverkusen.

The deal represents another financial benefit for Real Madrid from one of their academy products, although the Spanish giants will also give up the remaining 50 per cent of Andrés’ rights as part of the transfer arrangement.

Chema Andrés, a product of Real Madrid’s renowned La Fábrica academy, is now set to continue his career in the Premier League after Brighton moved to secure his services.

Brighton’s €23 million agreement with Bayer Leverkusen means Real Madrid are entitled to €11.5 million because of the 50 per cent stake they retained in the midfielder.

However, the deal also brings an end to Real Madrid’s remaining involvement in Andrés’ future. By giving up their share, Los Blancos will no longer hold a buyback option or the possibility of bringing the player back to the Santiago Bernabéu.

Andrés enjoyed a breakthrough campaign at Stuttgart last season, attracting attention with his performances and prompting speculation that Real Madrid could consider exercising their buyback clause.

The Spanish club ultimately decided against making a move for the midfielder, allowing him to continue his development elsewhere.

Brighton’s decision to invest €23 million in the player now provides Andrés with an opportunity to test himself regularly in the Premier League, while Real Madrid benefit financially from a player developed within their academy system.

The Andrés transfer is part of a broader strategy that has seen Real Madrid generate significant income from players who came through their youth system.

The club has increasingly relied on academy graduates and former youth players to generate transfer revenue, particularly when those players do not have an immediate place in the first-team squad.

Nico Paz, Gonzalo García and César Palacios are among the other academy products whose departures have also generated significant transfer fees for the Spanish giants during the summer.

Real Madrid’s academy remains an important part of the club’s long-term sporting and financial strategy. While not every academy graduate breaks into the first team, the club’s ability to retain economic rights in some players allows it to benefit when those footballers secure lucrative moves elsewhere.

Andrés’ case demonstrates how that model can provide Real Madrid with a substantial financial return even after the player leaves the club.

With Brighton now securing the midfielder for €23 million, Real Madrid are positioned to collect €11.5 million from the transfer while closing the door on any future claim to Andrés’ playing rights.

For Andrés, the move marks the beginning of a new chapter in England, where he will look to build on his breakthrough season and establish himself in the Premier League.
