Delta State Government has approved N4 billion to empower 15,000 indigent people, operators of Nano and micro businesses in all the 25 local government areas of the state, beginning early November.

Rising from the State Executive Council meeting, Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu, said the council approved disbursement of N250,000 each to the 15,000 beneficiaries as a social intervention by the state government to enable them grow their business, purchasing power and for upkeeps of their families.

He explained that the fund would cover other logistics to ensure that the right persons were empowered to improve their livelihood and economic well-being by raising their purchasing power.

Aniagwu, in company of the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Festus Ahon, said the social intervention initiative would cover the 25 local government areas of the state.

He said the grant was intended to help existing businesses overcome economic challenges, provide start-up capital for aspiring entrepreneurs and enable beneficiaries to meet pressing needs.

The commissioner explained that the initiative was part of the government’s efforts to ensure that the benefits of ongoing economic reforms translated into tangible improvements in the lives of ordinary Deltans.

The Delta State Government has also approved key projects across agriculture, infrastructure, health, education, and civil service.

Aniagwu explained that large tracts of land in Delta Central were acquired to ease investor challenges, with compensation for agricultural land following the State Economic Summit. The move aims to encourage farmers, attract investment, and expand large-scale farming.

The commissioner also mentioned that the state council looked into the preparations for the 2027 budget.

Aniagwu said that there were indications of greater stability in the value of the naira, which he attributed to the policies of the President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Infrastructure approvals include flyover extensions at Uromi Junction, Agbor, and Otorwodo Junction, Ughelli, alongside road works in Warri and other communities. Medical outreach will continue in oil spill–affected areas.

Civil servants will benefit from the reconstruction of the State Civil Service Club House, while education projects include an ultra-modern lecture theatre at Delta State University, Abraka.

Offices for Delta State Electricity Regulatory Commission, DSERC, and the State’s Rural Development Agency will also be rebuilt.

The commissioner stressed that these approvals reflect government’s commitment to development and improving residents’ welfare.
