The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, said it has arrested three visually impaired men operating an illicit drug ring between Lagos and Kano States.
Spokesman of NDLEA, Femi Babafemi in a statement on Sunday in Abuja disclosed that the lid was blown off the group following the arrest of a visually impaired suspect, Adamu Hassan, 40, along Gwagwalada expressway, Abuja with 12kgs of skunk on his way from Lagos to Kano on Saturday.
However, investigations revealed that he had no idea what was in the bag that was given to him to deliver in Kano.
According to Babafemi, follow-up operations resulted in the 45-year-old visually impaired syndicate leader, Bello Abubakar, being taken into custody.
Bello, a married father of five children, claimed in his statement that he has lived in Lagos for thirty years but only began dealing drugs five years ago.
Another suspect, 59-year-old Muktar Abubakar, who is also blind, claimed to have lived in Lagos for 40 years and to have been married to three wives and have 14 children.
Both Muktar and Bello are joint owners of the business, while the third suspect, Akilu Amadu, 25, who is also visually impaired contributes money to the criminal trade and was the person who delivered the consignment to Adamu at the motor park in Lagos to deliver in Kano.
