Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has approved the implementation of compensation awards of N25,000 for employees and N15,000 for retirees in the state.

This decision will result in an additional N2.2 billion being added to the state’s payroll bill for a six-month payment period.

The announcement was made during a solidarity rally held at the State Secretariat, Governor’s Office in Ibadan on Monday. This development follows the inauguration of an 11-member ad-hoc inter-ministerial committee by the governor four weeks ago, tasked with addressing the demands of labor unions in the state.

Makinde urged the committee to approach the issue with an open mind and find solutions that are specific to the state.

The committee, led by Prof. Olanike Adeyemo, the secretary to the State government, is tasked with creating a report on how to carry out the demands of the workers.

Governor Makinde’s action is viewed as a step in the right direction toward improving the welfare of State employees.

Present at the meeting include; Comrade Kayode Martins of NLC, Comrade Bosun Olabiyi of TUC, Comrade Olaonipekun Oluwaseun of JNC Public Sector.

Other government functionaries including, Special Adviser, Labour Matters, Comrade Adebayo Titilola-Sodo, the Executive Assistant to the governor, Reverend Idowu Ogedengbe among others also accompanied the governor during the address.
