In a notable act of defiance, Senator Dino Melaye, the Peoples Democratic Party ,PDP, candidate in the Kogi state governorship poll, has chosen to boycott the ongoing electoral process taking place across the 21 local government areas of the state.

Our correspondent, closely monitoring the exercise, observed Melaye’s absence at his designated polling unit, Unit 004, Ward 002, Iluafon quarters, Aiyetoro Gbede, Ijumu Local Government Area.

Contrary to the common practice of candidates casting their votes during an election, Melaye was conspicuously absent from his polling unit. Instead, he remained in his country home, accompanied by some associates, deliberately staying away from the exercise.

A PDP chieftain in the town, requesting anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter, revealed that Melaye chose not to participate in the election because he firmly believed that the outcome had already been predetermined.

The PDP source expressed the sentiment that Melaye’s decision to abstain was a strategic move to avoid lending credibility to an election he perceived as lacking in fairness.

According to the chieftain, “Oga deliberately stayed away from the exercise so as not to give the election credibility. We are quite aware where the pendulum will swing because the outcome is already predetermined.”

Voting commenced at Melaye’s polling unit around 8:30 am and concluded precisely at 2 pm. The senator’s notable absence adds an intriguing layer to an already closely watched electoral process in Kogi state.
