In a tragic turn of events during the Kogi State governorship election, a 35-year-old man named Umar Hassan was shot dead at his Agala Ogane Polling Unit in Anyigba.
The incident reportedly occurred on Saturday.
According to eyewitnesses, the deceased was allegedly shot by suspected thugs associated with the Social Democratic Party ,SDP.
The perpetrators, armed with sophisticated weapons, invaded the polling unit, threatening violence and making spurious claims.
Eyewitness Adamu recounted the harrowing scene, describing it as reminiscent of horror movies.
He stated that the SDP thugs, armed with dangerous weapons, targeted Hassan, who was an APC ,All Progressives Congress, member, and fatally shot him.
The attackers reportedly chanted war songs, expressing their intent to harm anyone who did not support the Igala Agenda.
Despite the severity of the situation, Adamu noted the absence of military personnel who had allegedly been targeting APC supporters for arrest and harassment.
In response to the incident, APC supporters in the polling unit and the ward protested the killing, calling on security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.
The incident highlights the tension and violence that can mar the electoral process, endangering lives and the integrity of the democratic exercise.
