In a timely intervention, security operatives in Imo State reportedly thwarted an attempt by alleged political thugs to abduct Independent National Electoral Commission ,INEC, officials at a Registration Area Center in Amaimo, Ikeduru Local Government Area.
The thugs attempted to forcibly take the INEC officials into a waiting vehicle but were repelled by armed security personnel deployed at the center.
According to an eyewitness, the armed security operatives fired into the air when voters raised an alarm about the presence of thugs, causing the assailants to retreat.
The security personnel’s swift response prevented the potential hijacking of INEC officials and election materials.
Additionally, there was a significant presence of security personnel on major roads in Imo State, with armed soldiers stationed at checkpoints to enforce the restriction on movement.
The heightened security measures aimed to ensure a peaceful and orderly electoral process in the region.
