The Chairman of the House Committee on Navy, Representative Yusuf Gagdi from Plateau State, has vehemently denied making any calls for a probe into the fuel subsidy removal under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

In a statement issued in Abuja, Gagdi expressed surprise at the sensational headline, asserting that it was crafted to attract clicks and gain traction rather than accurately reflect his stance.

Emphasizing the importance of media integrity, Gagdi urged the media not to compromise its credibility for sensationalism. He clarified, “There is a misleading story in some sections of the media quoting me to have allegedly said our President, Tinubu, will be probed over the subsidy removal. Nothing can be farther than the truth in that news report.”

The lawmaker went on to stress the need for responsible journalism, labeling the story as “irresponsible and reckless.” He underscored his deep respect for Tinubu, citing an instance where he dropped his speakership ambition as a demonstration of that regard when directed to do so.

Gagdi called on the public to disregard the “mischievous and blackmailing headlines” and urged media houses to exercise more caution in framing their headlines.

The denial sought to set the record straight and distance the lawmaker from any remarks that could be construed as advocating for a probe into President Tinubu’s administration.

Mali’s defence minister died after an attack on his house, his family said on April 26, 2026, as the army fought a second day of battles with jihadist fighters and separatist rebels near the capital Bamako and other cities, putting the Sahel nation’s ruling junta under severe pressure. Defence Minister Sadio Camara, his second wife and two of his grandchildren died after a car bomb attack on his home in the junta stronghold of Kita, outside Bamako, his family and an official said. April 25’s shock synchronised attacks by Tuareg rebels of the Azawad Liberation Front (FLA) coalition and the jihadist Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims (JNIM) targeted several areas in the vast arid country.
