The Independent National Electoral Commission ,INEC, has officially presented certificates of return to the newly elected governor of Kogi State, Usman Ododo, and his running mate, Joel Salifu.
The presentation took place at the INEC headquarters in Lokoja, amidst jubilation from a large crowd of supporters.
Usman Ododo, representing the All Progressives Congress ,APC, emerged victorious in the off-season governorship election held on November 11 in Kogi State. He secured 446,237 votes, defeating Murtala Ajaka of the Social Democratic Party, who came second with 259,052 votes, and Dino Melaye of the Peoples Democratic Party, who polled 46,362 votes.
During the certificate presentation, Governor-Elect Usman Ododo assured the people of Kogi State that he would fulfill his campaign promises, building on the achievements of Governor Yahaya Bello while maintaining the unity of the state.
He expressed gratitude to the people for their overwhelming support, emphasizing that his administration would be committed to sustaining youth and women empowerment programs, providing employment for the youth, and prioritizing education.
Governor Yahaya Bello, present at the event, urged the people of the state to join hands with Governor-Elect Ododo in building a greater Kogi State. He emphasized the need for unity and togetherness, highlighting the achievements of his administration.
The State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Gabriel Longpet, officially presented the certificates of return to Governor-Elect Usman Ododo, affirming that he met the constitutional requirements for the position.
The certificate presentation marks the official recognition of the election outcome and the commencement of the transition process for the incoming administration.
