The Federal Ministry of Works has announced the total closure of the four ramps on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos for repairs starting from 7:00 a.m. on Monday, November 20.

Mrs. Olukorede Kesha, the Federal Controller of Works, Lagos State, issued a statement urging motorists to use alternative routes, obey traffic rules, and cooperate with traffic officials during the repairs.

The statement emphasized that all four ramps connecting Adekunle to the Third Mainland Bridge would be closed simultaneously. Motorists are advised to plan for alternative routes during this period and adhere to the guidance of traffic management officials.

The comprehensive repair of the 11.8-kilometer bridge began with the closure of the Adekunle ramp on November 6. The rehabilitation project, flagged off by the Minister of Works, David Umahi, and the Lagos State government on November 9, is expected to cost over N21.074 billion. The repairs of the Adekunle/Adeniji ramps are scheduled to be completed on or before December 13, just in time for Christmas and New Year celebrations. Maintenance work on the main carriageway is set to commence in January 2024.

While the ramps are closed for repairs, the main carriageway of the Third Mainland Bridge, both Island and mainland bound, will remain open to traffic. The closure is part of the government’s efforts to ensure the safety and longevity of the bridge, a critical infrastructure in Lagos.
