The Police on Tuesday arraigned Chief Jeff Nweke, Managing Director of Blue Shield Securities, a private security company based in Awka, at the Federal High Court, Awka.
Other suspects listed in the charge, with suit number FHC/AWK/413c/2023, were Dennis Okoli, Ozoemena Ezekwusili, Nonso Chukwuemeka, Echezona Nwaobu, Nwachukwu Thankgod, Johnson Oluchukwu, Eze Chukwunonso, Olisa Uzuwulu and Nwadozi Chukwuemeka
The Police told the court which held virtually that Nweke and others in September in Enugu Agidi had in their possession eight prohibited firearms (pump-action), without a license by the President.
“That you Jeff, the same date, place and within the jurisdiction of this honourable court did have in your possession 25 rounds of ammunition of prohibited firearms (pump-action), without a licenses granted to you by the President.
“You thereby committed an offense contrary to section 8 and punishable under 27(1)(b)i)) of Firearms Act.CAP F28,Law of the Federation of Nigeria 2004,” it said.
Nweke pleaded not guilty of the charges.
The defense counsel Mr Ifeanyi Obiako, SAN, applied for his bail arguing that the offenses were bailable.
Countering the application, the prosecution counsel, A.A. Nwano, said Nweke should be remanded in correctional Centre
In his ruling, Justice Nnamdi Dimgba said that the defense counsel should officially move for bail for application.
He directed that the accused be remanded in custody and adjourned hearing for Dec. 4.
