The International Day of Solidarity, observed annually on November 29, commemorates the 1947 UN General Assembly Resolution 181, which proposed the partition of Palestine into two states.

The recent wave of protests reflects ongoing global concerns over Israel’s military campaign in Gaza, triggered by an October 7 attack by the Palestinian group Hamas in southern Israel.

Israeli officials report around 1,200 casualties since the conflict’s onset, while the Palestinian health authorities indicate a more extensive toll of approximately 15,000 lives, including 6,150 children and 4,000 women.

On a positive note, Qatar, acting as a mediator, announced that Israel and Hamas agreed to extend a tenuous truce that commenced on November 24 for another day, fostering hopes for a more stable situation in the region.
