A Nigerian Air Force helicopter crashed at the NAF Base in Port Harcourt on Friday morning in the southern oil hub, but all five crew members survived with minor injuries, according to reports.
The incident occurred around 0645 GMT, shortly after the MI-35P helicopter took off for an operation in the oil-rich Rivers State, a region plagued by rampant oil theft, according to Air Force spokesperson Edward Gabkwet.
He stated that the crew members are being treated at an Air Force medical facility in Port Harcourt.
The cause of the crash is not immediately known. The incident occurred around 7:50 a.m.
Witnesses reported hearing a thunderous sound and seeing a thick flame, but there were no casualties.
