Spanish football club CD Tenerife has announced the death of its striker, Jesús de Miguel, aged 30, following a collision with FC Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono during a Spanish second division fixture.

De Miguel died on Tuesday, November 3, a day after sustaining serious injuries during Tenerife’s league match against Andorra at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López Stadium.

The incident occurred towards the end of the encounter when De Miguel attempted to reach a loose ball while Owono rushed out of his goal to clear it.

The goalkeeper, who was outside his penalty area, collided heavily with the striker, leaving him unconscious on the pitch.

Medical personnel immediately attended to the injured footballer, providing treatment for several minutes before placing him on a stretcher and transporting him to the University Hospital of Nuestra Señora de Candelaria.

The match, which was level at 2-2, was abandoned in the 108th minute to enable medical teams to focus on the emergency. Owono was subsequently shown a red card for the challenge.

Spanish media reports indicated that De Miguel suffered cardiac arrest following the collision but was revived by medical personnel inside the ambulance.

Although his condition initially appeared stable, reports said his health deteriorated in the early hours of Tuesday.

Confirming the tragic development, CD Tenerife announced that the striker died at approximately 8 a.m. on Tuesday.

In a statement expressing its grief, the club said, “Broken with pain, with a lump in our throats and unable to believe this is true, CD Tenerife announces the tragic death of Jesús de Miguel Alameda.”

The club further described the loss as devastating, adding that “There are no words of comfort; there is absolutely nothing that can ease this feeling of overwhelming sadness. We stand with his devastated family, his loved ones and the entire Tenerife family, who mourn this cruel outcome.”

CD Tenerife also extended its condolences to the late player’s family, friends, teammates and supporters.

Meanwhile, De Miguel’s family expressed appreciation to those who had reached out with messages of sympathy and support, while requesting privacy as they mourned their loss.

The footballer’s death has sparked an outpouring of tributes from clubs and supporters across Spain, with prominent sides Barcelona and Real Madrid among those expressing their condolences.
