The Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project ,RAAMP, is set to revitalize economic activities in Sokoto State through the upgrading of three key markets.
The markets, strategically located in Illela, Bidinga, and Gada Local Government Areas, are targeted for transformation into international-standard trading hubs. The comprehensive upgrade plan includes the enhancement of essential amenities such as toilets, lighting, improved access roads, storage facilities, and water infrastructure.
This initiative is part of RAAMP’s commitment to fostering agricultural development and propelling economic growth in the region. The proposed infrastructure overhaul encompasses critical elements like access roads, water supply, solar lighting, stalls, and storage facilities.
RAAMP’s project management has engaged in strategic meetings with various stakeholders, including market management teams, local government officials, community leaders, consultants, and the Federal Project Management Unit.
These meetings have centered around mobilizing stakeholders and communicating the government’s intent to enhance existing rural markets significantly. The project emphasizes the importance of sustainable planning and calls on stakeholders to actively support the authorities to ensure the project’s success.
RAAMP aims to elevate market transactions, improve the economic status of the local population, and provides assurances that no trader will lose their space during the planned upgrade. This initiative reflects a holistic approach to rural development, integrating infrastructure improvements with community engagement for lasting impact.
