The National Directorate of Employment, NDE, Director-General Abubakar Fikpo, has started evaluating its plans and initiatives in an effort to meet new goals for job creation in 2019.

He said, the NDE is dedicated to offering creative solutions to expand its employment creation models, which will keep enhancing the federal government’s microeconomic policies.

Fikpo stated that, the organization is actively seeking to expand the scope of job creation in alignment with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The director-general stated that, the agency has received a matching order from Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, to guarantee the creation of more jobs for Nigerian youths.

“NDE is poised to create more jobs through our various schemes, like the School-on-Wheels, SOW. scheme, especially in the hinterland of the country,” he stated. The plan will be redesigned and outfitted with training resources to help communities in need of vocational skills training that lack or have insufficient facilities.

“This is to provide Nigerians, whether in urban, semi-urban, or rural communities, equitable and inclusive opportunities for jobs and self-reliance.”

Fikpo said in a statement on Friday in Abuja that the organization was evaluating its plans and initiatives.

He claims that every NDE operation method is receiving careful consideration.

He declared: “We are encouraging cooperation with other public authorities, businesses, philanthropists, and donor organizations.” In actuality, the government is tasked with many tasks that require the use of financial resources, but sadly, these resources are extremely limited.

“For this reason, we are committed to working with everyone going forward in order to secure the growth of our plans and initiatives.”

Regarding Nigeria’s ongoing unemployment crisis, Fikpo claimed that the country’s high unemployment rate was caused by both the country’s geometric population growth and the lack of awareness among various unemployment groups of the opportunities for skill development and self-employment in Nigeria.

The speaker further stated that the NDE had provided various skills acquisition schemes and programs to school leavers, dropouts, and graduates in tertiary institutions, empowering and training them.

Fikpo added that NDE had helped a lot of people launch their businesses with soft loans, adding that it was planning to do even more by 2024.

He claims that in the past, a large number of the nation’s jobless people were reluctant to take advantage of the many chances provided by skill-acquisition programs as a substitute for the unavailability of white-collar jobs.

Still, he claimed that a significant improvement had occurred.

“As 2023 draws to a close, it is important to highlight that NDE has achieved remarkable success in its job creation initiatives,” he stated.

“The NDE is proud to say that it provided job opportunities to many unemployed persons and put smiles on their faces, despite the challenge of the global economic depression that equally affected government’s resources.”
