Nigeria drew 1-1 with Equatorial Guinea in their opening Group A fixture at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, in Côte d’Ivoire on Sunday.
Equatorial Guinea drew first blood in the 37th minute when Iban Salvador scored a well-placed shot, leaving the Super Eagles’ goalie, Stanley Nwabali motionless.
An instant response from Nigeria following a kick off saw Victor Osimhen head an equalising goal for Nigeria before the break.
The result placed the Super Eagles in the group’s third position after one round of matches by all four teams.
Nigeria will play against Ivory Coast and Guinea Bissau later in the tournament in other group fixtures.
