The Local Organising Committee, LOC, of the 13th African Games has appointed a former AFN Technical Director, retired Navy Commodore Omatseye Nesiama, as one of the referees for the athletics events.

The 13th Africa Games are scheduled to take place in Accra, Ghana, from March 8 to March 22, Credible News reports.

Before his recent appointment, Nesiama held prestigious positions as a technical official. He achieved the World Athletics Silver level status and was later selected to serve on the Confederation of Africa Athletics, CAA Technical Officials Panel in 2017.

Nesiama’s expertise extends to training Ghanaian Technical Officials in preparation for the Africa Games. He has demonstrated his skill as a respected Technical Official in various continental competitions, including the Africa U-18, U-20, and Senior Athletics Championships, on different occasions.

Nesiama’s contributions to athletics are noteworthy. He served as the competition director for the inaugural Africa Youth Championships, U-18, held in Warri, Delta, in 2013. Additionally, he achieved the distinction of being the first Nigerian to pass the qualifying examination for licensing as a World Athletics Athletes’ Representative.

As a certified technical officials’ lecturer by World Athletics, Nesiama has been an active member of the CAA Technical and Competitions Commission since 2014.

Nesiama has expressed his excitement, stating that he sees it as a recognition of his dedication to athletics. He pledged to fulfill his duties diligently and hopes to bring more recognition to Nigeria through his efforts. Nesiama also believes that his appointment will inspire more individuals to pursue technical officiating roles in athletics.
