As the world commemorates Good Friday, Christians in Nigeria have come together to observe the solemn occasion amidst the backdrop of ongoing hardship and challenges within the country.
Despite the difficulties they face, believers have gathered in churches across the nation to reflect on the significance of this day in their faith.
Good Friday is a remembrance of the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ. In cities across the country, some churches are expected to hold services. Processions tagged the Passion and Crucifixion of Jesus Christ would also take place.
In various cities and towns, congregations have congregated for special services, prayers, and processions, marking the crucifixion of Jesus Christ according to Christian tradition.
At Our Lady of perpetual Help, Makurdi Diocese, Benue State, worshippers joined their counterparts to observe the day.
Mr. Peter Anum, a member of the church expressed happiness that he was able to witness another Easter celebration, noting that irrespective of the hardship, Christians owe it as a duty to celebrate Easter.
In his sermon titled: “Love covers all,” Christ Embassy Pastor, Karu Group Church, Eloho Overie stressed the need for Christians to be led and guided by the spirit of love as it is the sole reason Christ came.
“As a Christian, you must understand that the reason Christ came to this world was because He loves you, and this love is personal such that even if you are the only one in this world, he would have still come and saved you.

“You must also understand that His love for you is to teach you how to love one another irrespective of your race, religious differences, political background and whatsoever. The Bible has commanded us to love, and that is what we must abide by,” he said.
Pastor Eloho urged his congregation to live a life patterned in the way of Christ who loved the world so much that he laid down His life for mankind.
Earlier in his Easter message, Tinubu called on Nigerians to be compassionate to one another and work in unity. He called on Christians to imbibe the virtues of love and sacrifice associated with the season.
“The President warmly greets Christians in Nigeria and around the world on this occasion, emphasizing love, sacrifice, and compassion as the patent themes of this solemn season.
“President Tinubu notes that the sacrifice of Jesus Christ for humanity is an emphatic lesson for leaders and all Nigerians to yield to selflessness and compassion, and be steadfast in the pursuit of a united, peaceful, and prosperous nation,” presidential spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, said.
Meanwhile security has also been beefed up across Nigeria to ensure a hitch-free celebration.
“In line with this commitment, the IGP has ordered round-the-clock security and protection of public spaces across the country,” Force spokesman Muyiwa Adejobi said.
“The IGP has also assured all travelers who will be visiting their hometowns and other places within the country for the festivities of adequate security irrespective of the medium of such travels whether by road, air, waterways, or rail, as deployments have been increased and visibility patrols intensified in all areas including aerial patrol and surveillance,” the police spokesman added.
As Christians commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, they unite in prayer for peace, healing and renewal in the nation.
They draw inspiration from the message of Good Friday, embracing the promise of a brighter future and the triumph of hope over despair.
