Working as promised, the new Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf Saturday morning began demolition of ‘unauthorised buildings’ in Kano metropolis.
Reports said in the early hours of Saturday a three-story building with ninety shops situated along race-course road was brought down by bulldozers.
The governor reportedly supervised the exercise in company of the state police commissioner, Usaini Gumel.
Credible News recalls that Governor Yusuf after assuming office on May 29 promptly directed land developers to stop work at the Hajj camp in the state.
The governor gave the directive when he paid an inspection visit to the camp to assess its condition prior to arrival of intending pilgrims for this year’s hajj from
Yusuf frowned at the deplorable condition of the facility that was meant to serve as a holding facility for pilgrims from Kano and contiguous sates.
The governor’s press secretary, Sunusi Bature quoted him as: “I became restless because of the premonition I had that the camp is in bad condition, and the visit I paid today attested to that, and no right-thinking person could believe that this is a hajj camp to accommodate intending pilgrims.
“I am not happy with what is on the ground; the immediate past administration in the state had demolished 130 houses, 65 toilets and sold the plots to their cronies, and if not for exigencies of time as the uplifting of this year’s pilgrims is about to commence, we would have brought the place back to its normal position.
“It is in view of the above that, as the executive governor of Kano State, I directed that all land developers at the hajj camp stop immediately; otherwise, recalcitrants would bear the consequences.”
