A disrespect to the authority of the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Sulu Gambari has earned former governor Bukola Saraki a ban from the traditional durbar ceremony in Ilorin Emirate.
Saraki, the Waziri of Ilorin, was accussed of deliberately disrespecting the Emir by leaving the Eid praying ground on Sunday while the Emir was delivering his Sallah message.
An unruly crowd, suspected to be supporters of Saraki, shouted political slogans against the norm at religious gatherings.
Reports said senior traditional title chiefs of the Emirate were miffed by Saraki’s behaviour and asked him to stay away from the Durbar at the precincts of the Emir’s Palace.
A statement from Saraki’s media office said he opted to shun the Durbar in the interest of peace even as he alleged that the state government did put pressure on the Ilorin Emirate Council to prevent him from attending the Durbar.
Chief Press Secretary to the Governor Rafiu Ajakaye slammed Saraki for playing politics in a bid to sore up his political fortunes. He denied any influence on the Emir or the traditional council to ban Saraki as alleged.
