The decision is in response to the ongoing tensions between Israel and Iran, which have raised concerns about the conflict spreading beyond the Gaza Strip as Iran vowed to respond to the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran and Israeli media have reported that Iran’s retaliation could be within days.
Lufthansa flights to the Middle East crisis region were initially canceled until August 13th. Lufthansa is offering free cancellations to travelers with tickets up to and including August 31st.
In line with the Lufthansa Group’s decision, scheduled flights to the region by Eurowings, Swiss, Austrian, and Brussels Airlines were also canceled.
