The Sokoto State chapter of the Association of Table Water Producers, ATWAP, has called on the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, to address what they consider to be baseless allegations of water contamination against their members. The ATWAP Chairman, Alhaji Nasiru Garka, led a delegation to the Sokoto NAFDAC office on Thursday to protest these claims, which were circulated through an online platform.
Garka argued that the report accusing some water producers of selling contaminated and unregistered products was unfounded and appeared to be an attempt to damage their businesses in favor of competitors from outside Sokoto State. He criticized the report for lacking concrete evidence, failing to verify the status of the companies with NAFDAC, and not addressing any alleged issues directly with the agency.

Garka expressed gratitude to NAFDAC’s Sokoto office for confirming that the companies named in the report are compliant with registration and renewal requirements. He also noted that tests conducted by accredited NAFDAC laboratories have debunked the contamination claims, proving the report to be false and misleading.
In response, NAFDAC’s Sokoto State Coordinator, Mr. Garba Adamu, thanked the ATWAP members for their visit and reaffirmed the agency’s dedication to protecting public health. He encouraged citizens to report any genuine concerns about production facilities to NAFDAC, ensuring that any violations will be swiftly addressed.
Adamu emphasized NAFDAC’s ongoing commitment to routine inspections, surveillance, and enforcement actions to maintain industry standards and safeguard the health of consumers. He urged the public to provide verified evidence when reporting any violations to ensure that appropriate actions are taken.
