Troops of the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army have apprehended a female, suspected of being an informant for a notorious kidnapper in Taraba State. revealed

The suspect, identified as Markus Grace, was arrested during an operation in Sondi Village, Wukari Local Government Area, LGA. She is alleged to be the girlfriend of a feared kidnapper known as Chen, who has been terrorizing the region.

In a statement by the Brigade’s acting Assistant Director of Public Relations, Captain Olubodunde Oni, the arrest was part of an intelligence-led operation following the kidnapping of Malam Saidu from his home in the Vesee community of Ukum LGA, Benue State. The military tracked Grace, who reportedly provided crucial support to criminal elements in the area.

In a separate incident on September 5, 2024, troops conducting a routine stop-and-search in Bantaje town, also in Wukari LGA, flagged down a suspicious Blue Toyota Yaris. The driver, upon being stopped, abandoned the vehicle and fled into nearby bushes. A search of the vehicle recovered an AK-47 rifle, a loaded magazine, and two National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, identity cards linked to individuals from the Mutum Biyu branch in Gassol LGA.

Efforts are being made to trace and apprehend the fleeing suspect, while investigations continue into the possible connection of the individuals linked to the NURTW IDs. The army remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of the region through continued operations against kidnappers and criminal gangs.

This is coming few months after troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke apprehended two notorious terrorists after a fierce shootout at Geshi Village along Rafin Kada road in Damisa Ward of Donga Local Government Area, of the state.
