The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, has issued warnings to Nigerians regarding the use of certain Dove soap products and unregistered drugs flagged in other countries.

In separate alerts, NAFDAC cautioned against the use of Dove Beauty Cream Bar Soap, which has been recalled in Germany due to harmful chemical content, as well as 13 drug products originating from the Philippines.

In a public notice posted on its X handle on Monday, NAFDAC highlighted that the recalled Dove soap contains Butylphenyl Methylpropional, BMHCA, a chemical known to harm reproductive organs, unborn children, and cause skin sensitization.

The affected product, produced in Germany, has batch number 81832M 08 and bar code 8000700000005. NAFDAC stressed that the soap does not comply with EU Cosmetic Product Regulations and has been banned in several countries due to its potential health risks.

The agency further listed other Dove products recalled in various countries, urging Nigerians to refrain from using them.

In a separate alert, NAFDAC warned against the importation and use of 13 unregistered drug products flagged by the Philippines Food and Drug Administration. These products include Niaosu Ruangao, Cimetidine Injection, Roxithromycin Capsules, Lean Slim Appetite Suppressant Capsules, and Dianne ® – 35 Cyproterone Acetate tablets, among others.

The Philippines FDA noted that these drugs have not undergone the necessary registration processes, meaning their safety, quality, and efficacy cannot be guaranteed. NAFDAC emphasized the dangers posed by unregistered and falsified medicines, warning that their use could result in serious health risks, including death.

The agency advised importers, distributors, retailers, and healthcare professionals to remain vigilant and ensure compliance with proper registration procedures to avoid the sale of dangerous, unauthorized products. It also encouraged consumers and healthcare providers to report adverse drug reactions or substandard medicines through official NAFDAC channels.
