The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, has apprehended 823 drivers and confiscated 634 licenses for traffic violations, including traffic light breaches and zebra crossing offenses, within the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja.
This was disclosed by the FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, through a statement released by the Corps Public Education Officer, Mr. Olusegun Ogungbemide, on Friday in Abuja.
The arrests and fines were part of “Operation Karara,” a special enforcement patrol launched on September 1 to address the growing violations of traffic lights and zebra crossings in the FCT. The initiative aims to curb road crashes and reduce gridlock caused by reckless driving and traffic offenses in the capital city.
As of September 2, the FRSC had administered 923 fines, impounded 189 vehicles, and confiscated several drivers’ licenses. Mohammed, disclosed that the violations ranged from dangerous driving to failure to adhere to road markings and reckless driving.

“We have successfully arrested 823 drivers, issued 923 fines, impounded 189 vehicles, and seized 634 licenses and vehicle documents for various offenses, including traffic light violations, dangerous driving, and reckless behavior on the road,” Mohammed said.
He highlighted that traffic light violations are a leading cause of road accidents in the city, a problem the FRSC is determined to tackle through strict enforcement of traffic laws. Mohammed also expressed satisfaction with the success of the operation so far and praised the commanders and operatives involved in the initiative.
The Corps Marshal urged motorists to cooperate with FRSC personnel, emphasizing that obeying traffic rules would help sustain the progress made during the operation and improve road safety across Abuja. Additionally, he directed officers to intensify patrols at key intersections and traffic points, especially during peak hours, to ensure continuous enforcement.
The operation will also involve public education and collaboration with other security agencies to maintain better traffic management in the FCT.
