Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court has adjusted the bail conditions for five out of 10 #EndBadGovernance protesters who were earlier unable to meet the original bail requirements after being arraigned on charges of treason and conspiracy.
The protesters, facing allegations of attempting to destabilize the country, had been granted bail on September 11 in the total sum of ₦100 million, with stringent conditions, including a surety with property in Abuja.
At the initial ruling, each of the 10 defendants was granted bail set at ₦10 million with one surety of the same amount. However, defense lawyers filed for a variation in the bail conditions for five of the defendants who were struggling to meet the terms.
In response, Justice Nwite reduced the bail sum to ₦5 million each for the five defendants and required a surety of the same amount. The court specified that the surety must be a blood relative, preferably a parent, though other close relatives within the court’s jurisdiction would be accepted if a parent was unavailable.

The ten protesters—Michael Adaramoye (also known as Lenin), Adeyemi Abayomi, Suleiman Yakubu, Comrade Opaluwa Simon, Angel Innocent, Buhari Lawal, Mosiu Sadiq, Bashir Bello, Nurudeen Khamis, and Abduldalam Zubair—face six charges, including treason, conspiracy to commit felony, inciting mutiny, and attempting to breach security by storming key government areas. These offenses are punishable under Section 97 of the Penal Code.
The government also accused the defendants of inciting the public against the state, burning down a police station, injuring officers, and damaging public properties, including a High Court complex and facilities belonging to the National Communications Commission. All ten defendants have pleaded not guilty to the charges.
