Contrary to earlier reports, the Lagos Country Club, LCC,is alive and functioning with the emergence of a Caretaker Committee.

Latest reports indicate that a special General Meeting last Thursday, following a valid Consent Judgment issued by Justice A. Lewis Allagoa of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, in July which was properly signed by representatives of the Club’s Board of Trustees and the previous Management Council.

The EGM, attended by more than 160 financial members of the Club, established a new Caretaker Committee to manage the club’s affairs and organize elections for the various vacant positions within two months.

This decision was made due to the previous Caretaker Committee’s failure to fulfill the Consent Judgment requirement of restoring the Club to normalcy within three months, a mandate that expired last Friday.

The newly formed Caretaker Committee, headed by Mr. Adewole Gege as Chairman, Mr. Adetayo Adegboye as Secretary, and Barr Olawole Harris Isa as Legal Adviser, along with the Chairpersons of the ten Sections of the Club, were sworn in Saturday. The ceremony was conducted by two Past Presidents and a Past Vice President of the Club present at the event: Chief Tajudeen Akande, Arc Funmi Bamkole, and Mr. Igho Okor.

While administering the Oath of Office for the Chairman, Secretary General, and Legal Adviser of the newly constituted Caretaker Committee, Chief Tajudeen Akande urged members not to remain neutral, as history will remember every ones contribution to resolving the conflicts within the Club.

Arc Funmi Bamkole, who administered the oath for all the Section Chairmen present at the brief ceremony, urged everyone to collaborate in harmony, remain faithful to their mandate, and uphold the oath they took.

Mr. Wole Gege, the Chairman of the Caretaker Committee, promised to take immediate action to fulfill to reposition the Club.

He also assured members that the Committee would not only operate transparently in their daily activities but also ensure that the rule of law governs all decisions and discussions.

Mr. Ayokunle Jimoh, a former Secretary General of the Club, remarked: “This is a very important period in the history of our club. This is where we are now, and as you can see, members are here in their numbers. They are tired of the stagnation in the club and they want to move forward.”

Sir Ladi Smith, a club member since 1985, said:  “Now I am happy we’re going to have new elections. We’re going to have a revamped and re-engineered Club. We want to make sure the constitution works for us. And where we believe the constitution is also not working for us, we as members are going to restructure the constitution to work for us.”

“This is a social club where people pay their annual subscriptions to come in and have peace of mind. So, it’s about saying we’ve got to set this club free and get it back to what we want it to be. And this is what we are determined to achieve”, promised Mrs. Adekunbi Akin-Taylor, the Chairman of the Darts Section and a member of the newly constituted Caretaker Committee.

Staff members are thrilled about this development and have pledged their support to the newly constituted Committee. The atmosphere in the club was celebratory, with food vendors reporting their highest sales volume in three months.
