The Confederation Africaine de Football, CAF, has reacted to the inhumane treatment meted out on the Nigeria Super Eagles team by the Libyan authorities.
The Super Eagles were stranded at Libyan airport for over 16 hours after arrival on Sunday.
The three times African champion have already pulled out of the tie and have activated their return back to Nigeria.
The issue has also led to a diplomatic row between both countries, with the Libyan Diplomat being summoned by the Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday.
CAF in a statement on Monday promised to investigate the matter and take appropriate action against those who violate its rules.
The statement reads:
“CAF views the disturbing and unacceptable experiences of the Nigerian National Football Team (” Super Eagles”) at an airport in Libya in a very serious light.
“The Confederation Africaine de Football (CAF) has been in contact with the Libyan and Nigerian authorities after it had been informed that the Nigerian National Football Team (‘’Super Eagles’’) and their technical team were stranded in disturbing conditions for several hours at an airport that they were allegedly instructed to land by the Libyan authorities.
“The matter has been referred to the CAF Disciplinary Board for investigation and appropriate action will be taken against those who violated the CAF Statutes and Regulations.”
