The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Governors Forum has directed all feuding members of the party to return to the previous status quo. This decision was announced by Bauchi State Governor and Chairman of the forum, Bala Mohammed, following a meeting that concluded early Tuesday morning.
Governor Mohammed acknowledged that internal disputes are natural within political parties but emphasized that such issues can be resolved amicably. He stated, “There is no crisis. The Governors, Board of Trustees, and the National Assembly caucus have agreed that the National Working Committee, NWC, should revert to the status quo.”
This move nullifies recent suspensions within the party, and all suspended officials are expected to be reinstated. Furthermore, Umar Damagum will continue to serve as the acting national chairman, as per a recent court ruling.
The decision follows a Federal High Court ruling in Abuja last Friday that barred the PDP National Executive Committee from removing Damagum. The court’s intervention came after a suspension and counter-suspension crisis escalated within the party. The directive aims to restore calm and unity within the PDP ranks.

Ologunagba in the statement Friday disclosed that: “The National Working Committee, NWC, of the PDP has extensively considered the series of complaints raised against the Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Illiya Damagum and National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, particularly with regard to the letter addressed by them to the Court of Appeal in Appeal against the Party’s position in the case involving the 27 former members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, who vacated their seats upon decamping from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
“The NWC condemned this anti-party activity of the Acting National Chairman and the National Secretary, which is in gross violation of the provisions of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017) and their Oath of Office.
