In a significant move to combat substance abuse and ensure public safety, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, and the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen their collaboration

At the signing ceremony, NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohammed Buba Marwa (Rtd), emphasized that this partnership marks a crucial turning point in their shared efforts to improve operational effectiveness, protect public health, and guarantee community safety

Marwa highlighted the vital roles both agencies play in safeguarding citizens’ health and safety. While NDLEA focuses on combating illicit drug production, trafficking, and abuse; NAFDAC regulates and ensures the safety of food, drugs, and other consumables.

NAFDAC Director General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, echoed Marwa’s sentiments, stressing that stakeholders cannot afford to work in isolation on substance abuse, illicit drug trafficking, and public health issues

Adeyeye noted that illicit drugs pose a significant threat to national security, leading to violence, terrorism, banditry, and societal ills. She emphasized the importance of collaboration, stating that working together will enable them to address problems more effectively.

This partnership between NDLEA and NAFDAC is a crucial step towards protecting public health and safety in Nigeria. By combining their strengths and resources, they aim to create a safer and healthier environment for all citizens.
