The Yola Electricity Distribution Company ,YEDC, has officially announced the commencement of a significant initiative aimed at deploying 1,880 free prepaid meters to its Band A customers, under the Meter Asset Fund, MAF, Scheme.
This move is part of the company’s broader effort to improve service delivery and enhance customer satisfaction by ensuring more accurate billing practices for consumers within its franchise area.
In a statement on Tuesday, YEDC emphasized that the initiative specifically targets Band A customers who stopped receiving electricity subsidies in April. The company stated that the installation of these meters is a crucial step in its ongoing commitment to transparent and fair billing, while also improving the overall customer experience for those previously without meters.

The distribution process, which has been approved by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, will include the installation of 1,500 single phase meters and 380 three phase meters. This rollout is scheduled to take place between November 18 and November 30, 2024, with installations carried out by approved vendors. Customers will not be charged for the meters, as the entire cost will be covered under the MAF programme.
The project forms part of the broader Presidential Metering Initiative, launched on June 13, 2024, which is designed to accelerate the nationwide rollout of meters and reduce the metering gap across the country. YEDC has urged all Band A customers to cooperate with the meter installers who will be visiting their homes and business premises during the installation period.
With this initiative, YEDC reaffirms its commitment to improving the quality of electricity distribution, ensuring that all customers receive reliable, transparent, and fair services.
