The National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN, has announced plans to honor President Bola Ahmed Tinubu with its highest recognition, the Grand Patron title at its 60th anniversary celebration slated for December 7 at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Port Harcourt.

NYCN National President Sukubo Sukubo, in a statement on Thursday, disclosed that the ceremony, themed: “60 Years of NYCN: Reflecting on the Past, Maximizing the Present, and Shaping the Future,” will draw over 200,000 participants, physically and virtually.

The event will acknowledge past leaders for their contributions to youth development while gathering prominent stakeholders, including governors, ministers, youth commissioners, and industry leaders. Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara will host the occasion, with Minister of Youth Development Ayodele Olawande as the special guest.

Distinguished figures like the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, and Dr. Elizabeth Jack-Rich will also grace the event. The highlight includes keynote addresses by Kenyan lawyer Prof. Patrick Lumumba and South African activist Julius Malema, focusing on youth leadership and empowerment.

The celebration will feature cultural exhibitions, a youth empowerment luncheon, and a parade by NYCN uniformed groups. Sukubo called on Nigerian youths and stakeholders to join in reflecting on NYCN’s achievements and envisioning a brighter future for Nigerian youth.

Founded in 1964, the NYCN has grown into Nigeria’s premier youth organization, representing over 40 million members and engaging globally through affiliations with international youth bodies like the World Assembly of Youth and the Pan-African Youth Union.
