A devastating fire has ravaged the well-known Araromi spare parts market at Agodi-Gate in Ibadan, Oyo State, causing extensive damage to property valued in the millions of naira.

The inferno reportedly began at around 2:00 AM on Saturday and continues to blaze uncontrollably, with emergency services still working tirelessly to contain it.

The General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Service, Akinyemi Akinyinka, confirmed the ongoing battle against the destructive fire, calling for additional support to tackle the situation. He urgently appealed for assistance, saying, “We are facing a serious inferno at Agodi-Gate. We need the support of water tanker owners to help us control the flames. We are still on the ground, fighting the situation.”

As of now, the exact cause of the fire remains unknown, with investigations underway to determine how the devastating blaze began. The destruction has left a significant impact on the market, a central hub for spare parts trading in the region, with many businesses suffering substantial losses.

In a separate incident, Credible news could recall the tragedy that struck on Friday morning in the Ori-Eru, Idikan area of Ibadan, where a fire claimed the lives of a husband, his wife, and their grandson.

The fire, which occurred in a storey building at approximately 3:46 AM, completely engulfed the property, leaving no chance for escape for the three victims. The cause of the fire in this incident has not yet been clarified, but the tragedy has left the local community in deep mourning.

This latest disaster follows a series of other fire-related incidents in Ibadan earlier this week. On Sunday morning, a fire devastated three shops in the city, although the swift response from the Oyo State Fire Service prevented further damage by saving 13 other shops from destruction.

Just a few days prior, a fire broke out at the Christ Apostolic Church in Ibadan during a night vigil on Friday, trapping several worshippers inside. The fire started around 9:30 PM at the church’s location in Wisdom Estate, Road 1G, Olohunda Road, within the Lagelu Local Government Area.

This tragic incident adds to a series of recent fire outbreaks in the city, highlighting ongoing safety concerns.
