Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, representing Ondo South Senatorial District at the National Assembly, has pledged N10 million to support traders impacted by the recent fire outbreak at the Caring Heart Market in Okitipupa, Ondo State.

During a visit to the market on Thursday, accompanied by traditional rulers from the district, Ibrahim assessed the extent of the damage and expressed his heartfelt sympathy to the affected traders.

This occurred at midnight on December 12, destroyed fewer than 18 shops filled with frozen foods and other goods valued at over N50 million.

Acknowledging that the damage could have been mitigated if water had been available, Ibrahim announced plans to drill a solar-powered borehole and install solar-powered lamps at the market to improve infrastructure and prevent future incidents.

“I deeply sympathize with you for the loss of your shops and goods,” Ibrahim stated. “As soon as I received the news of the fire, I came down here with our traditional rulers to evaluate the situation firsthand.

“I learned that the absence of water hindered your efforts to extinguish the fire. To address this, I will provide a solar-powered borehole for the market and install solar lights to enhance safety and prevent similar occurrences in the future.

“Additionally, to support those affected, I am donating N10 million to help you restock your goods and recover from this tragedy,” he added.

Chief Mrs. Florence Irinyemi, the Iyalaje of the market, expressed gratitude on behalf of the traders, appreciating Senator Ibrahim for his timely visit and generous donation of N10 million.
