Funke Akindele’s hit movie, Everybody Loves Jenifa has continued its money-spinning trend chalking N1.466 billion and still growing at the Nigerian box office.

Indeed, it has officially become the highest-grossing Nollywood movie ever, astonishing both the industry and its audience.

The film’s distribution company, FilmOne, shared this achievement on their social media platforms on Monday, announcing that the box office revenue exceeded ₦1 billion in just two weeks.

“Everybody Loves Jenifa has officially hit a historic N1.466 billion and counting at the box office, making it the highest-grossing film of all time! A massive thank you to our incredible audiences in Nigeria and Ghana for making this dream a reality! Your support is everything. On to even greater heights! Still showing in cinemas near you—experience the magic on the big screen,” the post read.

Since 2020, Funke has consistently led the Nigerian box office, with her films holding the title of highest-grossing films to date.

In 2020, Funke’s Omo Ghetto: The Saga topped the charts with ₦636,129,120 in cinema revenue.

In 2021, Funke’s Battle on Buka Street earned ₦668,423,056 at the cinemas. By 2023, Funke raised the bar further; A Tribe Called Judah became her first film to surpass the N1 billion mark, generating ₦1,404,187,806 in box office sales. By 2024, Funke had firmly established herself as the queen of Nigeria’s box office.

Previously, Nollywood’s top-grossing film was the 2016 movie by Ebonylife Films, which earned ₦452,288,605. The following year, its sequel earned ₦433,197,377. In 2018, EbonyLife Films repeated its success with ‘Chief Daddy’, which made ₦387,540,749.

‘Everybody Loves Jenifa’ is a continuation of the 28-part Jenifa series. The latest film introduces new challenges for the lead character, Jenifa.

Jenifa’s popularity faces a challenge when her new neighbor, Lobster, begins to outshine her charity efforts, stirring feelings of jealousy and inadequacy in her.

The movie brings back favorite characters from her 2008 debut, sparking nostalgia among long-time fans. The cast includes stars like Patience Ozukwor, Jide Kosoko, D’Banj, Falz, Nancy Isimie, Layiasabi, Damiloa Oni, and Stan Nze.
