The Federal Government is strengthening partnerships with global lessors and financiers to support the growth of domestic airlines and facilitate fleet renewal in Nigeria.

Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo disclosed that the government is committed to enhancing engagement with stakeholders and prioritizing the development of a globally competitive, inclusive, and resilient aviation ecosystem.

He also mentioned that he would soon lead a team from Nigeria’s aviation sector to participate in the “Boeing Lessor Forum” in Dublin, Ireland, from January 12 to January 15, as part of efforts to achieve these objectives.

The minister further explained that the “Boeing Lessor Forum” would be held in conjunction with the “Airline Economics Growth Frontiers Global Conference” at the same location in Dublin.

“This significant event underscores Nigeria’s commitment to fostering growth and sustainability in the aviation industry under the visionary leadership of President Bola Tinubu,” Keyamo noted.

He added that the Boeing Lessor Forum provides a valuable platform to showcase the reforms taking place in Nigeria while building strategic partnerships that will propel the country’s aviation sector forward.

“I anticipate active participation and collaboration from the delegation to unlock innovative leasing and financing solutions that align with our shared goals,” he said.

Keyamo also urged the delegation to leverage the event to address any inquiries or logistical concerns, ensuring smooth and productive interactions.

The minister emphasized that the Renewed Hope Agenda of the current administration focuses on strengthening adherence to international standards, such as the “Cape Town Convention,” to enhance investor confidence.

He also revealed that the Federal Government would intensify efforts to attract strategic investments in airport modernization and air navigation systems to improve safety and operational efficiency.

“We are also advancing training programs to nurture local talent and sustain the growth of the industry,” Keyamo added.

NAN further reported that the Cape Town Convention grants creditors internationally recognized rights in the event of a debtor’s default or insolvency.

This convention lowers the risks for aircraft financiers and other parties involved in aircraft purchases and leasing.

The primary aim of the Cape Town Convention is to protect the interests of sellers, buyers, and creditors by establishing an international registry for recording interests in mobile equipment.
